A man with a bladed weapon had taken over an Everlasting bus.

The bus hostage situation involving a man on an Everlasting bus that stopped along North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) in Guiguinto, Bulacan has been resolved as of 8:35 a.m. on Monday, October 20. The suspect is now under the custody of the Bulacan police.

The bus had come from Tuguegarao and was bound for Cubao when the incident occurred.

The hostage-taker, who has been identified as Lauro Sanchez, boarded the Manila-bound bus from Cauayan, Isabela.

At around 6 a.m., witnesses say Sanchez suddenly held a foreign passenger at knife-point as bus was going through the Santa Rita exit of the NLEx in Guiguinto, Bulacan. The bus ended up stopping at the Sta. Rita toll plaza.

NLEx Traffic Control supervisor Richard Briones said the man held 13 bus passengers. Other passengers managed to get out of the bus. All 13 passengers were found tobe unharmed.

Police Supt. Frankie Candelario, who led the assault team, got wounded while seizing the bladed weapon from the suspect.

Sanchez allegedly demanded to talk to media to air his grievance against members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

Investigators are still trying to find out if Sanchez was talking about a legitimate issue or if he was under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs. Police had noted that Sanchez seemed to be "unstable."

Police Sr. Supt. Ferdinand Divina, director of Bulacan Police, told ANC, "Galit na galit (si Sanchez). Kung bakit po siya galit na galit eh ini-establish pa po natin."
