Last year, an ingenious idea fleshed out by Jon Negroni and
was spread around like crazy! Negroni blew the Internet’s collective mind
by detailing what he calls “The Pixar Theory,” which covers every
Pixar production since Toy Story: A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc.,
Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, Ratatouille, Wall-E, Up, Toy Story 3, Cars
2, Brave and Monsters University.
The theory figured out a way to tie all the narratives of
each and every Pixar Animation story into the same universe from Toy Story to
Brave and everything in between. The meta-narrative is pleasantly crazy,
involving an escalating conflict between humans, animals, and machines. There
are holes in this theory big enough to drive a Cars-sized truck through, but part
of the fun is spotting them.
While this undoubtedly wasn’t the intention of the
filmmakers, the fact that someone took the time to figure out a way to connect
these films, and it all eerily makes perfect sense, is pretty cool.
